Test Details

Test Includes

Morganella morganii, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter cloacae, Enterococcus faecalis, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella oxytoca, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Serratia marcescens, Providencia stuartii, Acinetobacter baumannii, Bacteroides spp., Citrobacter freundii, Citrobacter braakii, Klebsiella aerogenes, Enterococcus faecium, Proteus vulgaris, Streptococcus pyogenes.

Use

Detection and identification of bacterial nucleic acids in wound swab specimens from patients with signs and symptoms of wound infection. Enables rapid pathogen identification and detection of antibiotic resistance markers to guide targeted antimicrobial therapy for acute and chronic wound infections.

Limitations

Resistance gene detection does not specify which organism carries the gene. Only detects nucleic acids specifically included in the panel. Can detect DNA from dead/non-viable organisms. Results should be considered in the context of the presence of clinical signs and symptoms.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen
Wound swab only
Volume
1 mL of transport media
Container
Transport media or viral transport media such as STM, Copan E-swab, Viraport.
Collection Instructions
Clean the wound bed to remove surface debris, then using your preferred swabbing technique (Levine, Z-technique), firmly rotate the swab across the wound bed to collect tissue fluid and cells from viable tissue. Place the swab immediately into the transport medium.
Stability Requirements
ConditionDuration
Ambient (20–25°C)Up to 72 hours
Storage Instructions
Ambient (20–25°C): up to 72 hours.
Causes for Rejection
  • Insufficient volume
  • Improper specimen type
  • Unlabeled or mislabeled specimens
  • Sample out of specimen stability window
